Water Quality

  • Soft water: 0-60 mg/L
  • Moderately hard water: 61-120 mg/L
  • Hard water: 121-180 mg/L
  • Very hard water: Over 180 mg/L

You can start to get scale buildup from 120ppm onwards

In Western Australia there can be quite a variety of water hardness depending on what suburb you live in and how the water is sourced (Desalination plants, surface water or ground water). Based on data from the Water Corporation:

-southern suburbs (SOR) have softer water

-Mount hawthorn: 120ppm  - Belmont: 140ppm

-northern suburbs such as Alkimos/Two Rocks have generally hard water. This is because surface water is supplemented with groundwater
